While I dont really notice them in other conditions, I feel like I have to credit at least some of the Bent 110s surfiness / loose ride in deep conditions to the HRZN Tech inserts at the tips and tails; the ends of the ski feel notably loose in deep snow. Bigger skiers, especially those who ski aggressively and prefer planted, powerful skis, may look elsewhere. We rent Nordic/Tele/AT/Splitboard Equipment in the winter, we do NOT rent Alpine Skis. Like I said above, its stable enough to support aggressive skiing through mixed snow. Ultimately, the Bent 110 delivers freeride flavor and powder performance in a ski that can hold up in most conditions and terrain on the mountain. So if youve thought of the 120 as a powder touring ski, that versatility will hold up in the 110. Flat Tail Dylan: Absolutely, this is another place where the Bent 110 feels practical and at home. Am I reading it right that the 110 is significantly heavier than the 120 even at 188 vs 184? I found it easy to bend, and despite its healthy rocker, the Bent 110s tails held on to carves reasonably well. Now, its important to reiterate the caveat that the Bent 110 is a nearly center-mounted ski, and that means it behaves differently in deep snow (and other conditions) when compared to a directional ski with a mount point thats several centimeters farther back. Atomic reports that they weigh 3500 grams per pair in a 180cm size, while the 120 weighs 3600 grams per pair in the 184cm size. The fact that it doesnt underscores the skis downside. Crested Butte during the 2022 Blister Summit, and despite hitting patches that were over knee-deep, I never found myself feeling like I needed to be on a wider ski. In cut-up or denser powder, the Bent 110 feels a lot like it does in soft on-piste chop. Super maneuverable, it makes those tricks feel nice and easy: hit kickers with confidence, stay in control in the air and stick your landing no sweat. Granted, those are challenging conditions for any ski / skier, but I found myself having a very hard time keeping the Bent 110 in check, with its stiff underfoot section feeling pretty harsh and its light tips getting knocked off track quite easily. Ski like a legend. The blended lightweight woodcore dampens vibrations when you want to send it big and the burly edges protect the Punx 7 when you want to hit rails and other features in the park. People that have owned light skis in that similar shape and gram weight know that it doesnt benefit on the resort. At my height and weight (510, 155 lbs / 178 cm, 70 kg), I always thought the 184 cm Bent Chetler 120 was a bit short, while the 190 cm length seemed too long for how playful and light that ski was. As the middle child of the newly expanded Atomic Bent family, the Bent 110s combine the freeride power of the 120s with the all mountain capability of the 100s. How long until my order ships? In heavier chop, the Bent 110 either requires you to be a very good skier to ski fast, or more likely, itll require you to significantly dial back your speed to stay in control. The Bent 110 is designed with HRZN Tech Tip and Tail for a playful performance and better float through blower without adding bulk to the ski. Selfishly, I wish Atomic had stuck with the 120s sizing and offered the Bent 110 in a 184 cm length, since thats pretty perfect for me and my preferences, but Im sure some other folks are the opposite and prefer the Bent 110s size splits. For those looking for a pretty easy, maneuverable soft-snow ski, that might be perfect. Its very balanced in the air. Choosing a selection results in a full page refresh. Both the Bent 100 and Bent 110 (both in 188 cm) are a bit lighter than the 184 cm 120. Heres how wed characterize the flex pattern of the Bent 110: Tips: 5.5-6Shovels: 6-6.5In Front of Toe Piece: 7-9.5Underfoot: 10Behind the Heel Piece: 9.5-7.5Tails: 7-5.5. But the trade-off is that the Bent 110 feels driftier, which is a fun trait in soft bumps. But in my opinion 188cm is too short for a lot of riders..Too bad. It looks like you are using an ad blocker. Its drifty feel and quick-release tails make tree skiing a blastand less of a harrowing experience than when you do it with much heavier and less intuitive skis on your feet. At 107mm underfoot this is one of the widest freeride touring skis, but still super light thanks to a full-length Carbon Bac, The ski of choice for Atomic freeride athletes like Izzy Lynch and Lucy Sackbauer, the all-new Atomic Backland 107 W delivers multipurpose performance in a wide, lightweight package. Its tips and tails are easy to bend and press. But if youre looking for a playful freestyle ski and you tend to ski fast in variable snow between hits, keep in mind the Bent 110 is one of the most playful, but least stable skis in its class. The first several generations of the Bent Chetler 120 were all pretty heavy skis. All Orders Over $250 Will Be Shipped With Signature Required Unless Otherwise Noted By The Customer. Purchase Any Ski-Binding Combo & Mounting is FREE! Dylan: I never felt compelled to mess with the mount point of this ski, given how cohesive it felt at its recommended line of -3 cm from true center. Again, I still really enjoyed slashing and popping around low-density chop on the Bent 110; its loose ride, balanced feel, and minuscule swing weight (for a ski this big) all add up to a ski thats great for skiing with a dynamic, playful style with lots of slashes and airs. It pivots easily, and it really responds to dynamic skiing. The light weight combined with all that taper, and floaty HRZN tips keep you on top and loose. The Bent 110 continues that pattern. One of the most award-winning skis to ever grace the mountain, the Atomic Bent Chetler 120 is a pillow-bashing, powder slashing ski legend. The combination of Light Woodcore and Carbon Backbone work together to reduce weight and keep performance responsive. Its Jossi Wells go-to for backcountry freestyle, charging lift-served pow laps and days when its deep, but not 120-deep. Dylan: Luke summed this up really well. Dylan: Yep, the Bent 110 remains a playful, nimble ski in soft chop. Again, the ski allows you to make micro adjustments while staying on your line. BCAs next-generation Float 2.0 cylinder is nearly 30% smaller and 15, Copyright 2022 SPORTS LTD Its very, very light for its size especially for a ski thats supposed to charge through variable chop and crud. At about 1870 grams per ski for our 188 cm length, the Bent 110 falls in line with many skis that are designed for backcountry touring, and is notably lighter than most resort-oriented skis in its class. The Bent 110 features a bit less rocker in the tail than the 120 but still charges through variable chop and crud. Luke: While I think the Bent 110 is a ski that certainly feels most appropriate in soft conditions, those soft conditions dont necessarily have to be deep for the ski to be a lot of fun. Bent Skis when they switch to light weight skis stuck with the trending times. Directional skiers and those looking for very composed and stable pow skis have many better options for a powder ski, but for those who prioritize playfulness and compatibility with a freestyle-focused approach to the mountain, the Bent 110 makes for a versatile pow ski that can still be practical when it hasnt snowed in a while. On the scale, the Bent 110 weighs in with similar numbers as the 120. For the 2022-2023 season, Atomic answered their calls with the brand-new Bent 110. In short, the Bent 110 looks a whole lot like the Bent Chetler 120. Still, the Bent 110 performs better in deep, untracked conditions than most of its competitors. I also tried it about -1 and -2 cm behind that recommended line (equating to -4 and -5 cm from true center), and that didnt really change much. With an extra dur, The 2022 Atomic Punx 7 is the perfect option for advanced to expert level skiers looking for a playful freestyle ski for the park. What if you move away from the recommended mount point? The other thing to keep in mind is the Bent 110s weight, or more accurately, its lack of it. At about 1865 grams for the 188 cm length, the Bent 110 could certainly serve as a dedicated touring ski, especially if you dont need the lightest possible option but like the sound of the Bent 110s playful, maneuverable ride. While arguably anyone can benefit from adding a playful freeride ski to their quiver, a couple types of skiers will likely love the Bent 110 the most: If youre looking for more of an all-mountain ski, check out the Bent 100. Balanced performance Balanced performance While some skis around this width (e.g., Nordica Enforcer 110 Free) feel like wider all-mountain skis, the Bent 110 strikes me as more of a narrower powder ski.. And while theres a clear contrast between the soft extremities and stiff midsection, it does not feel like there are any noticeable hinge points the transitions in stiffness feel quite smooth. Strong and smooth, the 2022 Atomic Maven 86 C utilizes OMatic Construction to create a core that produces the ultimate balance of stiffness and flex throughout the lenght of the ski. Dylan: Agreed. Blending the perfect amount of rocker with camber underfoot for maximum effective edge co, Exact and relaxed The ski felt a bit more intuitive when trying to drive it and initiate turns from the shovels, but not so much that Id all of a sudden recommend it to directional skiers used to skis with very set-back mount points. That said, there are also alternative lines (-2, -1, +1, +2) printed on the top sheet, so well be doing a bit of experimentation with mount point. In addition to the extra flotation, youll get more stability. While we often like to remind directional skiers looking for a maneuverable ski that they shouldnt be disregarding an all-mountain freestyle ski, I really dont think the Bent 110 is a practical choice for those who like to drive the shovels of their skis. I also appreciated the Bent 110s strong midsection on landings; for how relatively soft and loose its tips and tails feel, it offers a pretty big, supportive landing platform. Delete products before deleting Atomic brand. View our entire Return Policy. For reference, the 120 measures 60% rocker and 40% camber. I was under the impression there was no carbon in this ski? You dont get the energy or power of metal, but the Bent 110 certainly doesnt feel dead. Press the space key then arrow keys to make a selection. In these conditions, you can leverage the Bent 110s strong flex pattern around the middle of the ski and actually ski it pretty hard, while still taking advantage of its loose ride and low swing weight. Compared to the Bent 100, the Bent 110 offers a substantially surfier, more playful ride in slush and also doesnt get bogged down as much when the slush is fairly deep. I also sometimes ski bumps like a maniac, so if youre more finessed than I, the Bent 110 should do just fine. The rougher, firmer, and choppier the snow, the more this ski feels squirrely and unstable. Newschoolers has affiliate partnerships so we may receive compensation for some links to products and services. The rocker profile and flex pattern in the 110, though, are more similar to the 120. It basically demands a more centered stance, and its short, soft tips and shovels are prone to being overpowered and overdriven in deep snow. Luke is right when he mentions this skis long tails and stiff flex pattern underfoot potentially being hard for some folks to handle, but hes also right when he reiterates that skiers used to skis with pretty centered mount points likely wont be troubled by this. Lightweight, wide and strong, Atomic Backland 100 is one of the most versatile skis in the Backland collection and capable of performing in the widest range of snow conditions and in any terrain. So whats the deal with the 110? That combination is great for skiing fairly fast in open terrain, but then also quickly throwing in a slash or popping off a pile of pushed-around snow. The Bent 110 isnt a very exciting ski on piste, but those who like to casually carve groomers to and from the lift shouldnt have much to complain about. Product Details I believe thats a typo on Atomics part; in their catalog they do not list the Carbon Backbone as a feature of the 110, and in the little spot on the top sheet where you can see the wood core, there are no visible carbon stringers. The skis stayed nimble without feeling like they were going to send me OTB. more on this comparison in our accompanying Deep Dive article, Zegama is Zegama, Tom Cruise, & 200-Mile Races (Ep.123). For a ski with this waist width, its fairly quick edge-to-edge, thanks to its light weight. Topped off with Chris Benchetler's most fluid, creative artwork to date, the Bent 110s may be the last skis you ever need. The Bent 110 isnt great for carving tight turns like, say, the Line Sir Francis Bacon / Outline, but other than that, I cant really think of an attribute related to the general term playfulness where the Bent 110 is lacking. You can return unused products to us for a refund or exchange for up to 30 days from the date you received the order, provided that the item is unused and the original tags are still attached. As Luke mentioned, this 110mm-wide ski provides impressive flotation in powder and performs really well when skied with a playful, freestyle-focused approach. Anything less than 1800 on a 98 waist is garbage. Balanced performance It allows you to quickly sluff speed without deviating from your line or alter your line on the fly when you notice a rogue stump. And if you are new to powder skiing, these skis give you the chance to experience the snow we all dream about without demanding too much input. - Powered by, Your mountain, your adventure, your shops. 2022 will see Atomic release of a range of innovative new products and technologies. The combination of Light Woodcore and Carbon Backbone work together to reduce weight and keep performance responsive. Capable of floating in fresh snow conditions, pulling off tricks in the terrain park, and hitting the occasional kicker, at the end of the day the Bent Chetler 110-130 shortens the learning curve for a junior skier. In firm bumps, I did find myself wishing for some metal. Luke: The Bent 110s low weight becomes more obvious the firmer and rougher the snow gets. All rights reserved. Personally, nothing really surprised me about the Bent 110. Granted, it never felt harsh and unforgiving in very firm snow like some much stiffer, equally light skis can, just unsupportive and uninspiring. If you often find yourself slicing and dicing through tight places on your wide-ish skis, youre going to like the Bent 110. (1) Given its low weight, should we mostly be thinking of the Bent 110 as a touring ski, a resort ski, and/or a ski to use for both? The first place I skied the Bent 110and the first place I noticed that it skis more like a narrower 120 than a wider 100was on long, fast groomers. Medium Turning Radius This profile supports Atomics claim that the Bent 110 will ski more like a narrower 120 than a wider 100. Strong and smooth, the 2022 Atomic Maven 93 C utilizes OMatic Construction to create a core that produces the ultimate balance of stiffness and flex throughout the lenght of the ski. Beyond that, the traits that make the Bent 110 so much fun in pow and freeride terrain do keep it from leading this category in back to the lift groomer performance. With floatation enhancing HRZN tech tips and tails, Atomic's snappy Light Woodcore, and weight saving Carbon Backbone technology, they deliver resort shredding, backcountry busting performance you can count on every. We got the Bent 110 right as we (and most of the western U.S.) were in a month+ dry spell, but fortunately, that dry spell coincidentally ended right as our 2022 Blister Summit kicked off, so our reviewers and many Summit attendees got to test it in its ideal environment. Regardless of where you mount it, the Bent 110 feels like a ski that was specifically designed with centered, freestyle-oriented skiing in mind. But, again, no metal 110mm ski can drift and surf like the Bent. Dura Cap Side, Exact and relaxed Pure power. Dylan: I agree. It doesnt offer much in the way of turn initiation and I didnt find myself getting much energy out of it while carving, but its edge hold is surprisingly good. The Bent 110 is designed with HRZN Tech Tip and Tail for a playful performance and better float through blower without adding bulk to the ski. - Powered by. Atomic Bent Chetler 110-130 Junior Skis - 2022. Dylan: Totally, the Bent 110 is a benchmark example of what playfulness means in a ski for all the reasons Luke mentioned above. (3) The Bent 110 has a very centered mount point and an overall design that seems targeted at playful skiing, but will more directional skiers still get along with it? HRZN Tech Tip Test Location: Mt. Its nearly centered mount point and freestyle-heavy design do result in a ski that doesnt pair very well with a directional style in powder. Its biggest assets remain its low weight (including swing weight) and loose feel, and its very easy to throw around and make quick adjustments. The narrow 76mm-80mm waist width makes turning automatic and Full Cap construction keeps the ski super light while also adding durability that will endure many seasons of learning. When you find soft snow, you suck all the juice out of the Bent 110. Doing that, the ski feels really maneuverable in doesnt get bogged down that easily in deep conditions. To summarize: the Bent 110 is designed to bring the ride of the Bent Chetler 120 to a more versatile width, and its supposed to handle everything from pow-filled backcountry lines to lift-served laps and variable snow. Use left/right arrows to navigate the slideshow or swipe left/right if using a mobile device. It could also be a great 50/50 ski for use inside the resort and in the backcountry, and I think it makes the most sense in that context when youd primarily be breaking it out in the resort when the conditions are pretty soft. The combination of Light Woodcore and Carbon Backbone work together to reduce weight and keep performance responsive. The 110 features a bit less rocker in the tail than the 120 but still charges through variable chop and crud. How much is shipping? I only really found the limits of this skis flotation in very deep, unconsolidated mid-winter snow in the Crested Butte backcountry. All the skis get fresh Benchetler-designed topsheets. Same as the Bent Chetler 120, the Bent 110s recommended mount point is -3 cm from the true center of the ski, which is definitely on the more center-mounted end of the spectrum (even for a freestyle ski). I felt equally as comfortable driving the shovels as I did skiing with a more centered stance through tight places. COPYRIGHT A360 Media LLC 2022. Its got a twinned tail built for landing and taking off switch. With twin tips and Atomic Park Rocker, its a great stick to start training hard and honing their tricks during practice sessions in the park or for just jibbing around. Its also sturdy underfoot with enough torsional rigidity to be pushed through a turn. The rockered tips and tails of this ski are pretty soft, but the cambered portion (which is a bit more than half the length of the ski) is quite strong overall. The Atomic Bent 110 brings much of the popular Bent Chetler 120s playfulness, low weight, and maneuverability to a slightly more practical, narrower platform. And while you dont have to flip or spin to enjoy this ski, I might add that both of those things are very easy to do on the Bent 110, whether you are in the park or far from it. Rip pow turns, slash windlips, and send any line you can imagine. Its above-average maneuverability in soft snow continues to be an asset when the untracked snow gets cut up a little bit and you consequently need to make more adjustments and turns than you do in perfect pow. So there were definitely times where I felt myself getting punished / stood up by the tail of the Bent 110, but those were all in very tight bump lines that can make most skis feel a bit tricky to work with. (For a more detailed look at the whole 22/23 Bent lineup, see our writeup about the announcement). Its loose and surfy. Too much attention required to drive and control their super lightweight feel in anything other then untracked lighter snow. I also feel the 120s were too light for resort use. That said, in tight terrain thats covered with firm snow, especially really tight mogul lines, the 188 cm Bent 110 can feel a bit big. For 2022-2023, they debut the new Bent 110, plus a new Bent 90, alongside the existing 120 and 100. The flex pattern of the Bent 110 is basically a story of two parts: the rockered portions and the cambered portions. I also tend to drive the shovels of my skis a bit harder in chop, so that the front of the ski can absorb some of the impacts, but the Bent 110s stronger preference for a centered stance meant I had to do most of the impact-absorption myself, via my legs. The Bent110 takes a similar approach to the mountain as the Bent120, with slightly less width.
