In short, the Loupedeck+ tries to bring a more tactile approach to editing your content and eschews the on-screen sliders for an array of what seems like infinitely customizable controls. The Loupedeck+ proved to be an incredibly valuable tool once I managed to set up the customizable controls to my liking (a process I also divulge below). @JC Strange: Don't quote me on this, but I do believe they're working on it, based on a few discussions I've had in the past with the Skylum team. I'd love a big console like this but the Shuttle Pro looks quite nice for $100 - plenty of customizable buttons and a wheel. Find out what we're doing differently. Plenty of space on my desk but since I'm not married to LR thay kinda dampens it's appeal too, would've liked to see more discussion about how well it integrates with some of the other apps it supports (the comments helped fill in some of the blanks). I use a Contour Shuttle Xpress. The company insisted for days that the problems did not exist, but finally acknowledged the problems, admitting that the most serious problem - the creation of hundreds of History states - could not be solved. Gonna confirm with Loupedeck if this indeed is an upgraded model as the CT in itself is great (it has some room to grow- for example, they are working on making the Macros universal so you add in your own scripts - especially since CAPTURE ONE refuses to release support to them). @Ed, yes BM does make a far too pricey console. Its not necessarily cheap at $250, but considering how much time it saved me in just a few months of using it, its clear it will more than pay for itself in the long run, based on time alone (not to mention frustration). Weve chosen cameras that can take great photos and make it easy to get great looking video, rather than being the ones youd choose as a committed videographer. To my mind, the biggest ergonomic problem is the placement of the Keyboard Mode key just above the Shift key. With midi2lr it's quite amazing. I also have that Logitech trackball too, I upgrade it to the trackball mx erg which is better. The Behringer consoles need PFixer software to work, and that software is MAC ONLY. This was released more than a year ago. Not sure but cannot justify the pricing even though it really is a useful tool(rented it from camera rental service here). BMD makes far better tools for grading video, if you have $1K or so to spend. As you noted, it most definitely isn't a keyboard replacement (particularly for me, who has to write captions for images), but nowhere does Loupedeck claim it is. There, I just saved you $250! I am disappointed to hear that the quality of construction appears to be less than desired. Canon Australia has provided 10 of its EF 400mm F2.8 L IS II lenses to Macquarie University, Sydney, to build the Huntsman Telescope, a 'first of its kind' array in the southern hemisphere that studies faint, distant galaxies. Was looking forward to upgrading to this device and replacing the larger and clunkier midi ones I use now, but if it gives me multiple states for one turn of lets say 10 levels, it is not worth making the large purchase for something that is going to make my history list a mess in Lightroom. Canon's high end APS-C mirrorless camera has plenty of compelling features, but is it worth the price? I'm enjoying it and would recommend it. So I ended up with a keyboard, mouse, Loupedeck+ and my Wacom tablet in front of me -- which doesn't work. Is this the same unit? Between the sheer number of buttons, dials and knobs available on the board and the ability to further customize each one with the included Function (Fn) button, the options are seemingly infinite. Let good cop Jordan and bad cop Chris walk you through their thoughts. DJI has a new gimbal, and it's compatible with some of the revolutionary accessories from the Ronin 4D. Still gets the job done well. https://posttools.tachyon-consulting.com/davinci-resolve-controllers/beatstep-resolve-edition/, https://www.bome.com/products/miditranslator#overview, https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=101377, Review: Hands-on with H&Ys new Swift magnetic accessory system, Indiegogo: Loupedeck launches customizable, affordable Loupedeck Live S controller, Autel EVO Nano+ review: a solid sub-250g drone that lacks the polish of competing models, Great Joy 50mm T2.9 1.8x full-frame anamorphic lens mini-review, Canon EOS R7 sample gallery (DPReview TV), DPReview TV: Laowa 12-24mm F5.6 C-Dreamer Review, Best cameras for landscape photography in 2021, Best video cameras for photographers in 2022, Video: DIY Perks creates a massive '35mm F0.4' equivalent lens for otherworldly bokeh, ProGrade Digital unveils new dual SD/microSD UHS-II card reader with transfer speeds up to 625MB/s, Sigma teases new product launch set to take place next week, Video: Watch this crazy contraption recover photos from a broken micro SD card, Samyang announces second-generation $799 85mm F1.4 AF lens for Sony E-mount, Video: Learn how Kodak develops and applies light-sensitive coating to its film (in the dark! @Bob 1He typed Xtouch MINI, not the non-mini version which is too bulky. So you can't see the similarity between a deck with knobs and dials and another deck with knobs and dials? It always seemed insane to be editing anything with a qwerty keyboard, (or mouse).Still this boxy format should be improved upon eventually with something more ergonomical, compact and customizable. But until someone creates the app to translate midi into app controls, they can charge what they want. @Caleido @Peter1976: Thanks for the clarification. We got our hands on a production version of Canon's entry-level EOS R10 and took it for a spin. The updates don't bring any new features or functionality, but do address a number of bugs present in the company's X-A5, X-A7, X-H1, X-T100 and X-T200 APS-C mirrorless cameras. After years of confusion, DPReview and a group of leading websites and YouTube channels are changing the way we talk about small sensors. I think the initial onboarding process could be a little easier for the plug-in, but this tool is meant for the power-user, and anyone familiar with more advanced features shouldnt have too much trouble getting up to speed. Useless to me. I can't imagine it would be that difficult. Buttons worked fine but dials were a problem because each click represents a keystroke and if you went at any speed but very slow the emulator just got very confused and could end up anywhere from where you wanted to light years away. So the only thing you have to do at the end is to keep in mind which dial does what or - better- label the dials. Wider application and/or OS support would be nice (it's very limited - still). It might be nearly a decade old, but Nikon has released a firmware update to fix a live view problem its D7100 has when connected to a computer. I am considering buying the CT which looks to be very comprehensive in its capability. I use the Wave 2 and it looks and feels way better than the Loupedeck. This could save me so much time! Thank you so much for that. This one looks a lot nicer, although I still find myself clicking on parts of the sliders instead of dragging them, which is infinitely faster than turning knobs. Researchers from the Samsung AI Center have developed a new neural technology to animate static images with impressive realism and resolution. There aren't many consoles out there that work in Resolve aside from the two extremely expensive ones that Blackmagic makes. For use with LR its ok, for PS CC 2020 a lot of things arent working. However as a gadget lover I want one.Video editors will take to this easily as similar items have been in use for years to scrub through video etc. Yes, it's a good product, but not nearly as good as people paint it to be IMHO. Sorry if I missed what you were trying to show at my age, I do that often :(, I agree with Ken, the price of the Loupedeck seems reasonable if it saves you time which for a professional who makes his living editing photo/video material makes sense. What do you think Sigma has in store? I completely overlooked the "mini" part. Picked one up today and the buttons feel a lot more robust. The clicks of the dials and knobs feel much less wobbly than the original Loupedeck and the overall tactile feedback is much more pleasing. While its external dimensions and overall shape have remained essentially unchanged, it does offer several improvements. For the past two weeks, I have worked with Loupedeck+ and the three programs in my workflow: Lightroom, Photoshop, and Camera Raw. But as a RAW shooter, it does make working with photos so much easier. Just wondering why this costs nearly double the price of my Korg Nanokontrol Studio, which is also a simple black box with a few switches and dials? You can keep your eyes on the photo while making accurate adjustments with knobs. My first and only interaction with the loupedeck wasn't that great. Generally, it works very well but there are bugs. Thanks, but I'm still interested! 1 out of 5 stars IMHO. At about 1/5 of the price of the Loupedeck. The current design is just too big and bulky to use alongside a keyboard. First announced this spring, the new flash storage promises improved performance, more storage, better efficiency and a smaller footprint, allowing it to be utilized in various products, including laptops and smartphones. After that, it works like a charm. Can't locate the link though. In this buying guide we've rounded-up several great cameras for shooting landscapes, and recommended the best. Definitely gonna have to take a good at this. Also my LR6 doesn't work with the newest driver, contacted them and been using the older driver. At first, it didn't work, but then we soon realized that I hadn't updated my Lightroom Classic for quite some time. It's a well-built piece of equipment, and the software is solid. would you say this makes most sense in combination with e.g. Are you blind? The poor support for such pricey tool was frustrating. I have one. Thanks for the response @Gannon Burgett! More like a mouse than a keyboard, but very much the same idea as this. I wish for non-supported software, they would just let us map out the keystrokes that we want. Completely different products. I received the loupdeck+ for Christmas. Matte finish is okay, but yes - it will show everything; dust, fingerprints and wear and tear. Comparing LD with a wireless keyboard is just plain ignorant. Make it wireless and also making it compatible with iOS ipad pro lightroom would be a nice upgrade. Integration with Lightroom is excellent, but the implementation of Loupedeck+ with Photoshop and Camera Raw is riddled with dozens of problems, some serious, that render the tool useless: many buttons and dials do not work as intend and some do not work at all. A bluetooth or other wireless option should be included. Check out our sample gallery and let us know what you think of its image quality. Thankfully, so long as youre familiar with the program youre using the Loupedeck+ with, it doesnt take too long to get the hang of. I know the MIDI program and devices I am using now do not do this, only state was when I stopped turning knob/dial/slider. For the majority of my time with the Loupedeck+, I used it alongside Lightroom. I'm not sure if this would work, but you could try assigning keyboard + and - to the up/down keys and then use the Cmd/Con to control Exposure, Shift+ and Minus for Colour Temp ect. no, just a question of personal preference/taste :). @wickedMaPhoto: Great, thanks, wasn't aware of that!!! BOME support windowshttps://www.bome.com/products/miditranslator#overview, Dunno exactly if that workshttps://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=101377. I don't think the price is bad if it works well. Ive used it for some time now, but Im not satisfied at all. For your information I have used the Loupedeck and own a Shuttle 2 and earlier similar products. @brycesteiner: the software is free to use with all of the supported applications. I have one but rarely use it because I do not have enough desk space to have that and the keyboard out at the same time so I forget to bother getting it out!
