The Survive Alive Village at the Indianapolis Firefighters Museum and Union headquarters is an educational fire safety program designed mainly for children. It’s operated by the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) and the Indianapolis Professional Firefighters Union Local 416, located at 748 Massachusetts Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46204.

The program teaches kids how to stay safe in case of a fire through hands-on, interactive experiences. It includes lessons on:

• “Stop, Drop, and Roll” — how to respond if clothing catches fire
• Fire escape planning, featuring the EDITH Program (“Exit Drills in the House”)
• Recognizing firefighters in full gear so children aren’t afraid to approach them in emergencies

The Survive Alive facility is housed in the same building as the Indianapolis Firefighters Museum, which displays historic fire engines, artifacts, and exhibits about the city’s firefighting history — including the 1963 Coliseum Explosion and exhibits honoring Black firefighters.

The program’s goal is to make children comfortable and confident about what to do if a fire occurs, using a realistic but safe environment staffed by trained firefighters.
