Our Kidz In Charge presentation is crafted for our 5th and 6th-grade visitors. In this empowering information-filled presentation, your 5th and 6th-grade students are inspired to become true leaders in fire and life safety practices in their own lives and homes. Each facet of this presentation helps your students to know what to do when they are the "Kid in Charge" when home alone or in situations like providing care for younger children!
IN THE CLASSROOM
At the opening, your students will be informed on how this program differs from other presentations that Survive Alive offers. Although still covering the crucial fire safety components of an Escape Plan: 2 Ways Out and a Meeting Place Outside; your students will also have a chance to discuss preparations for adverse weather conditions like tornados and even how to respond in case of an accidental child poisoning. Our Kidz In Charge visitors are always reminded that they everything that they are learning is to be shared with younger children in their lives Participants will learn the basic function and importance of various pieces of a firefighter's gear as our Instructors choose one of your students to don the gear. This interactive learning method draws your students in and engages even the timidest of students to appreciate firefighters' gear!
The Kidz In Charge Presentation also uses our opening classroom session to get your students thinking about their futures, their schooling, and eventually their careers! Your wonderful students will come to know that positive choices now have absolutely everything to do with a great life later.
Our Kidz In Charge Presentation also reinforces basic learning principles like active listening, following directions, repetition, and the importance of acknowledging and praising the positive actions of others.
IN THE VILLAGE
The Village comes alive as your students will learn how to perch themselves atop our mock roof, should they need to use an exit strategy in a real-life escape. Participants are taught the importance of sleeping with their bedroom doors closed and more.
Unlike previous presentations, the Kidz In Charge kitchen is filled with mock household, electrical, and accidental poisoning hazards! Your students become the teachers as they are encouraged to identify hazards, informing our Instructors and their classmates on what makes the particular prop a hazard and how they intend on fixing it when they are the Kid in Charge to keep the little ones they care for as safe as possible!.
The first-floor bedroom holds a new challenge for your students. They will be introduced to the concept of Disaster Preparedness and learn how to build a preparedness kit for their own family.
The second-floor bedroom allows the Kids In Charge students to put their Fire Escape planning skills to the test, drawing out an exit plan as they revisit the lessons learned in the classroom. They then work as a team to perform an exit drill and even practice life-saving communication skills as they make a mock phone call to 9-1-1.
Your students will be in awe with the final portion of the day's presentation! Our team will keep your students on the edge of their seat with a fun, hands-on, and memorable lesson in, you guessed it, FIRE SCIENCE!!! Your 5th and 6th-grade students will learn how the basic principles of fire science can be used to keep everyone safe when they are the Kidz in Charge!
